Special Olympics New York - Polar Plunge
FREEZIN' FOR A REASON
On Saturday, March 5, 2016 Lodge 911 participated in the 12th Annual Town
of North Hempstead Polar Plunge held at North Hempstead Beach Park to
benefit the Special Olympics.

Our team, the FOP Lodge 911 Bears in Blue, consisted of 8 volunteer
plungers, Silvio & Santino Sweet, Diana & Jonathan Fuller, Steve & Joseph
Bosco, Rich Altamirano and Erin Maher. Collectively Lodge 911 raised over
$3,000 to benefit the Special Olympic Athletes and we ranked number 3 out
of 49 competing teams in terms of money raised!

The Lodge 911 trailer was transported to the scene by Associate Member
George Cerruto and it provided a changing and warming station for all FOP
members attending the event.  George also donated hot refreshments and
snacks for everyone.  The trailer was also utilized by other police agencies
present at the event which provided a nice atmosphere of camaraderie and
fraternalism.
DWI Awareness
The Stop DWI Lodge 911 Mustang has been busy this year starting off with the 2016 Winter Polar
Plunge for Special Olympics then on to the grand opening ceremony for the new Paws of War
location in Nesconset.

On May 15, 2016 we supported the first annual Nassau County Holy Name Society Widows and
Orphan Fund and attended the Blessing of the Cars in Uniondale, NY.

During the Summer Lodge 911 was represented at two events. The first event
on June 12, 2016
was the Centurion Cruisers and Police Surgeons Benevolent Association at St. Anthony’s High
School in Huntington honoring fallen NYPD Police Officers Brian Moore and Randolph Holder, both
killed in the Line of Duty during 2015. All of the proceeds went directly to their families.

The second summer event on July 17, 2016 was the Centurion Cruisers Car Club and David Lerner
Charity Car Show held in Syosset, NY to benefit children with Autism.

The Lodge 911 car and trailer were both present at these events to raise awareness of the dangers
of DWI.
